Established in 1523 CE, Khimsar Fort is a living testimony to the glorious history of a family that continues to inhabit it as its modern-day custodians.

Khimsar is situated at the edge of the Thar desert in western Rajasthan, and is home to the Karamsot Rathores, one of India's only surviving Rajput dynasties of direct descent.

The family's 19th descendant, Gajendra Singhji opened the doors of Khimsar Fort as one of India's first and most prominent heritage hotels back in the 90's. Over the years, he created two more properties, the Khimsar Dunes Village, which is just 6 kilometres west of the fort, and Urvashi's Retreat in Manali.
